2009 marked the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, Scotland's most famous Scottish poet. The National Trust for Scotland redeveloped the Burns National Heritage Park in Ayrshire to mark the occasion.
This project involves the redevelopment of the entire site and the construction of a new, world class, state-of-the-art museum, exhibiting the most important Burns collection in the world.
This £21m project incorporates JJI-Joists extensively throughout the ground floor, first floor and roof structures. The design of the JJI‑Joist and BJ Beam components was undertaken by James Jones & Sons Ltd, with their inclusion within the overall building scheme approved by the Architect and Engineer. Supply was through Alexanders Timber Design.
The overall project used 5,700 lm of JJI-Joists and 170 lm of BJ Beam. The ground floor construction incorporated 350mm JJI‑Joists and the first floor 400mm JJI‑Joists and 195mm BJ Beams.
The striking wave-shaped roof was constructed using 220mm JJI‑Joists and 300mm BJ Beams.
