A group of 14 senior students and professors from University College Dublin visited our Lockerbie sawmill last Thursday as part of an International Forestry Study tour.
The tour was arranged by Silviculturist Edward Wilson, who commented "We learned a great deal about the timber industry and the milling process at James Jones. The fact that the mill was on Easter break had a real silver lining. We could see, hear and talk about all the various stages in the production process. The visit really added to the tour, in that we were able to link Kielder Forest, Iggesund papermill, Thirlmere Reservoir and James Jones to understand how the forestry sector works to maximise economic benefits and environmental protection. It was good to see how engaged the students were with the whole experience."
