SDS (Skills Development Scotland) recently visited our Lockerbie sawmill. The event was facilitated by DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) and the purpose of the visit was for SDS advisors to gain an insight into the vast array of careers that are available in the timber industry, witness the processing operations in action at the Lockerbie sawmill and visit a harvesting site.
We were able to discuss the wide range of jobs available in the industry, the low carbon credentials of the sector and tackle some of the myths and misconceptions about the skill sets needed to work in the industry.
