James Jones & Sons' Mosstodloch site recently co-hosted a 'Forestry Industry Familiarisation' visit for councillors from Moray Council to find out about forestry and its contribution to the local economy as they prepare their woodland strategy.

The day began with a visit to Seafield Estate, a mixed estate with farming, forestry and sporting interests. The estate balances the commercial, biodiversity and community aspects of forestry. In the afternoon, guests were invited to a presentation and site tour of our Mosstodloch sawmill.

The purpose of the visit was to help familiarise councillors with the forestry sector in Moray. The visits provided an opportunity to see at first hand how the sector takes into consideration different management objectives, with site constraints, environmental considerations, community and market opportunities. The visits also provided an opportunity to ask questions of those involved locally with the sector on a day to day basis.
