James Jones & Sons was delighted to support Confor at this year's STEMFest North East, helping to introduce thousands of young people to the exciting opportunities available within the forestry and timber industry.

Held at the VERTU Motors Arena in Newcastle from 6–8 October, the three-day event welcomed around 3,000 primary and secondary school pupils from across the region, bringing together 60 organisations to showcase the real-world applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Representing Confor on its exhibition stand, James from the James Jones & Sons' harvesting division helped raise awareness of the important role forestry and timber play in everyday life, while highlighting the diverse range of careers available across the sector.

Pupils were given miniature trees to take home, providing a tangible reminder of the importance of trees and sustainable forestry, alongside careers leaflets showcasing the variety of roles available within the industry.

From sustainable forest management and timber production to advanced manufacturing, engineering and technology, the industry offers a wealth of opportunities for the next generation.

STEMFest provided an ideal platform to engage with young people, encourage curiosity and challenge perceptions of what a career in forestry and wood processing might involve.

Organised by the STEM Hub and delivered by RTC North, STEMFest aims to connect education with industry, helping young people understand how the subjects they study at school can translate into rewarding careers.

James Jones & Sons was pleased to play a part in this year's event alongside Confor, helping to inspire the next generation and showcase the innovation, sustainability and career opportunities that make forestry and timber such an important industry for the future.
