Last week Move On Wood Recycling visited our Kirriemuir sawmill to collect some dusty, but very attractive old hardwood sawn stock from the 1990s.

Move On Wood Recycling is a social enterprise in Edinburgh that collects waste wood, sells quality timber and provides work experience, training and volunteering opportunities.

Its aims are to:

  • Save resources by reusing and recycling waste timber that would otherwise go to landfill (or at the very best be downcycled into woodchip)
  • Create sustainable jobs, as well training and volunteering opportunities, for local people – especially those who might find it difficult to get into or back to employment

Move On Wood Recycling has saved 778 tonnes of wood from landfill, supported 78 young people through employability training and provided 2277 hours of volunteering experience.

Charlene Best, Marketing and Communications Lead at Move On Wood Recycling, said “As well as being for sale soon in our shop, these will be an amazing resource for volunteers and young people in our workshop. Thank you again to James Jones & Sons and we look forward to working together more in the future”.
