To mark National Careers Week, Tom Coates, Area Supply Manager, attended a careers event yesterday hosted by Education Partnership North East at its Northumberland College campus. The event aimed to help students explore the world of work, highlighting opportunities ranging from apprenticeships and employment to industry placements, further study and volunteering.
The careers fair gave students the chance to meet employers face-to-face, learn about real career pathways and gain insight into the skills employers are looking for.
Designed to raise aspirations among young people at the college, the event encouraged students to consider the wide range of opportunities available in the workplace. A diverse mix of organisations attended, including universities, employers, volunteering groups and apprenticeship support providers.
The fair was targeted at students studying land-based subjects, with students from courses such as agriculture, horticulture, land-based engineering and animal management taking part.
There was significant interest in careers in forestry and timber processing. Many students were particularly engaged by our virtual reality headset experience, which allowed them to see a timber harvester, timber lorry and sawmill in action.
