Bringing together leaders, innovators and practitioners from across the forestry and arboriculture sector, the Institute of Chartered Foresters National Conference 2026 in Newport explored the theme “Innovation for a Resilient Tomorrow.” Over two days of discussion, collaboration and forward-thinking insight, delegates examined how forestry can evolve to meet environmental, social and economic challenges while helping to shape a more resilient and regenerative future. From emerging technologies and AI to sustainable woodland management and community wellbeing, the conference highlighted the vital role trees and forests continue to play in supporting people, places and the planet.

David Leslie, Rob MacKenna and Tom Coates from James Jones & Sons, led a panel session on the topic of innovation in timber harvesting and wood processing called 'Cutting Edge: Innovation in UK Timber'. This was an engaging session which covered innovations in timber harvesting, sawmilling and the need for more productive forests. Joining the panel were Jock McKie, Managing Director of John Deere Forestry UK, and Iwan Lloyd-Williams MICFor, an independent forester and business owner, who brought valuable industry perspectives and practical insight to an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
