The Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA) visited our Lockerbie sawmill last week. The eighteen students had the opportunity to see James Jones & Sons’ visitor building, which has won a number of awards and attracted considerable interest in the architectural and engineering communities.
The students received an interactive training session on the structural properties of UK timber, including timber grading and the importance of making the most of British production and were also given a tour of the full site, which is the UK’s most technically advanced sawmill operation.
Rob MacKenna, General Manager South Operations, said “We welcomed the opportunity to have architectural students on site and to assist with their studies into the use of timber in construction, particularly encouraging the specification of UK timber for structural applications.”
