A history of firsts

James Jones & Sons has a proud history dating back over 180 years. In that time, we have been at the forefront of timber innovation. We introduced the first J Nail, the first Mini Bundling system, the first Incised line, the first state of the art x-ray scanning technology... We are constantly innovating and leading the timber industry by example.

James Jones & Sons introduced the JJI-Joist, pioneered the use of polyurethane adhesives and was the driving force behind the development of automated I-Joist production lines.

Ever since James Jones & Sons Ltd was incorporated, we’ve remained firmly at the forefront of our industry.

Our aim remains exactly the same as that exemplified by our founder, James Jones: to set and maintain the highest standards of quality and service.

For us this means valuing and looking after our employees. It means treating our customers with courtesy and respect. It means always behaving with professionalism and integrity. It means taking care of the environment everywhere that we operate, and it means striving to make sure that what we produce is the best it can be.

Some may say these are old-fashioned virtues.

For us they are the natural way of doing business and, we like to think, would make the first James Jones proud of the company he founded over 180 years ago.

The methods and technologies we use may have changed but this commitment remains at the core of our business today.

James Jones & Sons Ltd is partnering with Volvo in a three year trial of electric timber trucks, funded by Scottish Forestry. The project is the first of its kind in the UK.
