Lockerbie 3 to Reopen Ahead of Schedule
James Jones and Sons Ltd have announced that their Lockerbie 3 sawline was re-commissioned on 25th October 2010, and has successfully resumed production more than a week ahead of schedule.
A fire on the Lockerbie 3 sawline on 16th June this year resulted in the closure of the new line. The second saw group was the only part of the line that was affected by the fire and engineers at the manufacturers, Soderhamn Eriksson, rebuilt the saw group. Start up of the sawline has been very successful and full scale production has been resumed.
James Jones and Sons Ltd benefits from being a multi-site operation and an emergency action plan was immediately implemented to increase output at all other sites within the group in order to maintain specification availability.
Senior Sales Manager Graham Blyth says; "The speed with which the emergency plan was implemented ensured we were able to quickly make up the lost production and thereby maintain a balanced stock profile to satisfy customer demand. The company is enormously grateful for the support and loyalty of our customers during this time and for the work and effort of the harvesting, production and sales teams who have been extremely creative and flexible in their efforts to minimise disruption and to maintain service levels." He continued, "Whilst the sawline was out of commission, we have also taken this unexpected opportunity to invest substantially on additional in line cross cutting equipment which has further improved the yield and flexibility of the mill."
