James Jones & Sons Ltd Bids a Fond Farewell to Staff Member after 65 Years of Service

James Jones & Sons Ltd has bid a fond farewell to Bill Nicol, the company's longest serving member of staff, who has decided to retire after a remarkable 65 years of service.

Bill started work with James Jones & Sons as a fifteen year old apprentice electrician in 1946. Apart from a spell of national service where he was a gunner with the RAF in Shackleton Bombers, and a 3 years break elsewhere, Bill has been busy working with timber machinery of all descriptions within the Company. The engineering division of James Jones also benefited from Bill's skills for a period of time.

Throughout the years Bill has had to adapt to considerable changes in the James Jones' plant and machinery, yet continued to work tirelessly right up to his retirement.

Joint MD, Ian Pirie said:

"James Jones has a great track record in retaining its staff - the average length of service for an employee is over 35 years. But Bill has set a unique record of his own. We are fortunate as a company to have had Bill's expertise for all these years and we wish him a long and happy retirement."
